JOHANNESBURG – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has expelled two Members of Parliament, Pumlani Kubukeli and Dr Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala, with immediate effect.
The party announced the decision on Thursday, citing alleged conduct it believes has damaged its name, reputation and integrity.
In an official statement, the MK Party said the expulsions were carried out under the authority of the party president, in accordance with Section 7(2)(h) of the party’s constitution.
“Their membership in the uMkhonto weSizwe Party is therefore terminated with immediate effect,” the statement said.
Following the decision, the party confirmed that it had written to the Speaker of the National Assembly to formally notify the office of the expulsions and initiate the necessary procedures regarding the two MPs’ removal from Parliament.
The MK Party reiterated its commitment to maintaining unity, discipline and integrity within its structures, emphasising that all members are expected to adhere to the party’s constitution.
The party also stressed the importance of collective responsibility, unity and comradeship, saying members must conduct themselves in a manner that protects the organisation’s interests and reputation.
The expulsions mark a significant development within the party as it reinforces its position on internal discipline and compliance with its constitutional requirements.
